Pain

Pain, it directs your attention towards a certain danger and holds your attention.  Most of us might assume pain is bad, since it is not a pleasurable sensation we feel.  However, pain is a way that we tell ourselves something is not right with our body.  There are some cases in which a person is unable to feel pain because of a genetic mutation that disrupts the development of nerve fibers that carry the sensation of pain.
Can you imagine not being able to feel the difference between hot and cold water?   How about breaking your hand but not feeling a thing?  A kindergarten student by the name of Ashlyn Blocker feels no pain.  If she has a hard fall she does not cry like an ordinary kindergarten student would.  Not being able to feel pain has caused Ashlyn many problems.  For example, she would bite her tongue while eating, chew her lips until blood came out while sleeping, get blisters in her hand due to her inability to feel temperature.

The video below explains more about Ashlyn Blocker’s genetic disease.  Researchers are now looking for ways to be able to control pain through the gene linked through pain, since this gene can cause either extreme pain for some people, while in Ashlyn’s case it causes no pain.
